After having come back from the furniture outlet this afternoon I have been feeling upset and dejected. Why? Because my note was rejected.
During my upbringing, I was always thought by my parents to have a goodwill gesture and other positive norms. I just do not understand as to why vandals appear to be as who they are. Who is accountable? Who is to be blamed? …..Genetic? …..mutation?……their parents? or…..upbringing?
Well…back to the furniture outlet. I went there this afternoon to buy an ‘iron work’ delivery trolley for my mother in-law who came to our house since last friday. Since she had her eye on the same trolley that I bought few months ago, I thought of buying her one.
Upon payment I handed over the required RM notes and while waiting for the receipt, the cashier returned the RM5 note to me. She refused to accept it because of the defect that appeared on the note. I scrutinized it and noticed the saw-like defect in an oblique manner at the right upper end of the money.
I was extremely furious. It was not even my fault in the first place…and yet I have to be a scapegoat. Why did I have to take the blame? Not only that, to add salt on the wound, the cashier asked me to throw away the note.
My only fault was to have not noticed such a pre-existing defect upon receiving the change from shopkeeper or cashier. Hmm…I think as a result of goodwill gesture attitude towards everyone( including shopkeeper and cashier ), I overlooked the problem. Perhaps, they might not be the vandals…. somebody else did.
I am pretty sure some of you out there have experienced the similar incident as that of mine. Though the problem may be regarded as a trivial matter by some people, I do feel it is a serious social disease.
I do aware that we cannot expect everyone in society to have a good heart and sound mind as most of us do when it comes to a large population. Likewise, if we were to buy 30 chicken eggs at a time, chances are we may get one or two rotten eggs out of it.
Sincerely, I feel that we do not do justice to have been refusing the defective notes from ‘the non-vandal’ someone only because the money happens to be possessed by him or her at that present time.
How are we going to overcome this issue? My suggestion perhaps we may need a body that collects the defective notes and disposes them for reprocessing using the same material. You people out there may have a better idea.
To the vandals: money notes do not belong to you people but they are public/Malaysians’ belonging . If your hands or feet are overtly itchy to do the damage or destroy public belongings, kindly execute it to your paraphernalia beforehand and…..guess how do you feel.
